Mr. Volberding represents businesses and individuals in the Texas and federal appellate courts. He has written and argued briefs in the Tyler, Texarkana, Eastland, and Dallas Courts of Appeals involving contract disputes, child custody, family law, and criminal convictions. Similarly, he has argued appeals in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit and the Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces, and filed petitions for writ of certiorari in the U.S. Supreme Court, obtaining one certiorari grant. Appellate law is a specialization with its own set of rules and traps. Winning appeals requires nuanced understanding drawn from a body of complex case law, translated with careful prose into paper for quick understanding by tired and busy appellate judges and law clerks. Having clerked for two years for a United Stated district judge, and written for his law school’s law review, Mr. Volberding knows how to write and argue well.
